MMSGS 2008 Tournament: This three-round tournament was played at the Daniel Boone Regional Library on February 16, March 15 and April 5, 2008. The game was the Avalon Hill classic from the 1990s, recently re-issued by Valley Games. The tournament was organized by Charlie Ward. Glen was the tournament winner on tiebreak points and received the $25 Valhalla's Gate gift certificate. Final standings:
The final total province count in each game was used as a tie-breaker for final results. Tournament rules were that games were to be completed to the end of a turn; if a player conceded their game prior to the end of Turn 9, one point was to be added to the province count of the winner and one subtracted from the loser for each uncompleted turn. If either player were to win an immediate victory by capturing the enemy capital by seige or by eliminating all the enemy PC markers the province count was to be taken as 18 to 0. This rule was invoked only once in the six games. Of the six games played in the tournament, Rome won three and Carthage won three, despite a majority opinion that the game favored the Roman player. |
