MMSGS 2012 Tournament:
Twilight Struggle

This three-round tournament was played in January and February 2012.

The tournament used the second edition rules (or equivalently the Deluxe edition rules without the optional event cards, the optional Chinese Civil War activation of the China card or the placement of 2 U.S. influence in Canada). Click here to view the game rules on-line at GMT Games.

Players bid a number of Influence points to play the Soviet Union, following the procedure for simultaneous bidding in Section 11 of the game rules. The winning bidder played the Soviet Union; his opponent played the U.S. with extra Influence points placed on the map in the amount of the high bid. The extra Influence was placed after all other setup was complete, including the initial card deal, but only in countries where the U.S. already had influence and not exceeding two more than needed for control of the country. (Note: in the WBC championships, most winning bids are in the 2-4 range.)

The players contributed $5 to a prize fund with a Valhalla's Gate gift certificate awarded to the winner. As the tournament winner, Tim was awarded the $20 gift certificate.
