MMSGS 2010 Tournament: Agricola

A tournament in Agricola was held on the first Game Nights of March, April and May. Dana organized and ran the tournament. Players were able to enter competitively for $5 or non-competitively for free. The competitive players were eligible for prizes of Valhalla's Gate gift certificates.

Every attempt was made to have games be 3 or 4 players, as the 5-player games tend to be lower scoring. Seating at each board was determined randomly along with starting player. Rules were by-the-book, except for initial cards. In order to diminish the advantage that having good minor improvement cards and/or occupations can give, each player was dealt 10 of each type of card and was allowed to choose and discard 3 of each before the game began. The March game used the "E" deck, the April game used the "I" deck, and the May game used the "K" deck. The Z deck could be added to any deck if everyone at a table agreed.

Tables were assigned randomly for the first game. For the 2nd and 3rd game, everyone was ranked according to average score, with the highest-ranked players at one table and the lowest-ranked players at another.
