This three-round tournament was played from March through May, 2010. The game is the the 3rd edition of this U.S. Civil War simulation classic, published by Phalanx Games. The tournament used the Version 3.1 living rules authored by Alan Emrich and posted on the Web at http://www.alanemrich.com/Games_Archive_pages/AHD_pages/ahd3.htm rather than the version 3 rules included in the boxed game. There are very few differences between the rule sets, but the 3.1 rules are clearer, better organized and easier to use.

The 1862 scenario (April, 1862 thru March, 1863) was played. The victory condition for the game scenario is determined by the difference of Army Maximum Size between the two players at the end of the game.
